The Week’s Market Analysis

  • Price of beans continues to drastically fall, yellow beans reached record low of Ksh71($0.70)/kg in Nairobi, Kenya.  Yellow beans normally sell at Ksh90($0.89)/kg in Nairobi.
  • The price of green grams have started to increase as most farmers continue to hold on to their commodity. There is plenty of food to eat, so there really is no urgent need to sell.  Eldoret reported the highest wholesale price of Ksh116(US$1.15)/kg.
  • The price of maize seems to be stabilizing, there is plenty of maize both within Kenya, and the Eastern Africa region. Most parts of rural Kenya, maize is reportedly selling at Ksh17(US$0.16)/kg to Ksh20(US$0.19)/kg.
